Independent bookseller
What we like:
Excellent independent book store with an intelligent selection of books, including a good range of local history. The Guardian said of it: "The shelves are heavy with books on art, the environment and beautiful modern editions of literary titles, alongside a good selection of classics, cookery books, gardening titles, Scottish interest, poetry, children's books and craft." The window display's always very tempting too.
In their own words:
"We stock a wide yet discerning range of literary fiction and non-fiction titles, with a core collection of literature, art and environment books.
Here, you will find modern world fiction in translation, critical and philosophical essays, nature writing and environmental essays, writings on design and music. Find the latest illustrated children’s book, or a second-hand lost favourite, or a well-loved classic of European cookery. From international contemporary art books, to local and national histories of Selkirkshire, the Borders and Scotland, our range of books is extensive. It holds together well within a modern and inviting interior. Visit us and experience the real thing: this is a literary oasis recently commended in The Guardian’s profile of characterful independent bookshops."
