Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre

Owls, eagles, hawks, falcons and vultures.

What we like:

This is a great day out. The staff take a genuine interest in their work and allow visitors to take part in flying the birds on the regular displays. It's great for children.

In their own words:

"The Birds Of Prey Centre is located within the magnificent lakeside surroundings of Kielder Water at Leaplish Waterside Park, Northumberland. The Centre contains one of the largest & most fascinating collections of Birds Of Prey in the North of England. At the Birds of Prey Centre you will discover a vast variety of species & find out about their essential role within the ecology of the natural world. Learn about the valuable work of the Kielder Water Birds Of Prey Centre’s captive breeding programme, which has been established to further the awareness of conservation, propagation & rehabilitation of the Birds of Prey. This is a fantastic opportunity to see Birds of Prey in action. Watch a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph, see the grace and speed of Eagles, Hawks & Kites. Experience the thrill & excitement of handling some of these beautiful and extraordinary birds."

Good to know:

They also do personal experiences and courses, including hawk walks - using a Harris Hawk - which are particularly good for groups.
