Hire a stand up paddleboard or a kayak and take to the waters of the Scottish Borders.
What we like:
One of the best ways to experience the Scottish Borders is from the water and hiring a paddleboard or a kayak from Audrey is a great way to get started.
Based in Midlem, just a short distance from Selkirk, she can deliver to the doorstep or straight to the water. The paddle boards are inflatable, making transporting them to the water all the easier.
There are some great local lochs ideal for family paddleboarding and the River Tweed is an excellent location for a spot of kayaking: look out for the otters that swim in the river as they fish and play.
Where it is:
On rivers and lochs within a short driving distance of the The Five Turrets in Selkirk. St Mary's Loch and the Loch of the Lowes - 17 miles away down the beautiful Yarrow valley - are very popular locations, with the added bonus of the chance of spotting ospreys fishing during the summer.
What it costs:
Dagger Katana Kayaks and JOBE inflatable SUPboards are available for hire on a daily, weekend or weekly hire basis. Prices start at £20 a day for SUP hire and from £30 a day for kayak hire. Weekly hires cost £100 for a SUP and £150 for a kayak - but contact Audrey to get the latest prices and a special Five Turrets discount.
